Carol M. Schoch – Founder/Director:
cmschoch@detroitchildrenschoir.org
A native of the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area, Carol earned her B.A. in Vocal Music from Lycoming College, and K-12 Vocal and Instrumental Music Education Certification from Moravian College. Two years into her teaching career, her husband, David, started with Ford Motor Company, which took them to Cleveland and then Farmington Hills, where they brought three daughters, now adults (with passions of their own!), into the world. The family then accepted foreign assignments with Ford to England, Brazil and South Africa.
Throughout the years, Carol utilized her musical training as a church choir director, teacher, singer and founding director of the International Choir of São Paulo. After returning to the States, she earned her Masters of Music in Choral Conducting and Vocal Pedagogy from Oakland University in 2005, studying under Dr. Michael Mitchell, Dr. Edith Diggory and John-Paul White. Currently, she performs with sounding light (formerly Birmingham First Chamber Choir).
The Detroit Children’s Choir journey has been a wonderful discovery of the warmth at the heart of this great city. All of the children who have come through our choirs show such promise! It is our charge to give them every opportunity to allow their gifts to grow into passion for learning and leadership – that which will light the way to a much brighter Detroit!
Margaret Reese – Assistant Choral Director

She teaches music theory and appreciation at Wayne County Community College. In 1996, she was recognized by the University of Michigan as one of four outstanding multicultural music educators in the State of Michigan.
She has taught music to students at all levels, kindergarten through high school and community college, and began working with the Detroit Children’s Choir in 2008 at Coleman A. Young and MacDowell Elementary Schools.
Mrs. Reese continues to sing professionally in the Detroit metropolitan area. She has been a choral singer with the Cantata Academy Chorale since 1984 and is a long time member of its Board of Directors. She is the alto section leader of the chancel choir and plays handbells at Central United Methodist Church, Detroit. In addition, Mrs. Reese is employed by MacMillan/McGraw Hill book publishers as a teacher consultant in music education.

Lauri Hogle – Assistant Touring Choir Director
UPA Science & Math Middle School Choir Director
A summa cum laude graduate of both the University of Evansville’s (IN) celebrated Music Therapy program and Georgia State University’s Choral Music Education graduate program, Lauri Hogle joined the DCC directing roster as of August, 2010. Lauri has performed across the country with an extensive range of professional and student musicians and has served as faculty accompanist with several universities. For over two decades, Lauri has worked as a church musician, directing choirs of all ages and serving as both organist and pianist. At various times, she has maintained significant, active piano studios. She is also the former organist for the National Christian Choir, based in Washington, D.C.
Before moving to Georgia from Maryland, Lauri served as director of choruses at a private high school, tapping into her great passion for classroom teaching. Upon moving to Atlanta, she did graduate work at Georgia State University to earn K-12 music education certification as a public school music and choral teacher. She recently taught for three years at a Georgia middle school, earning straight superior ratings in all contests and an invitation to perform at Carnegie Hall in May.
Lauri enjoys spending time with her husband, Paul, who is the new Executive Vice President with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and her three daughters, Rebecca (pre-vet medicine major at Berry College, GA), Rachel (violist in senior year at Interlochen Arts Academy) and Ruth (cellist in senior year at Interlochen Arts Academy). She also loves her three dogs, one cat, reading and doing cross-stitch to relax. She is thrilled to become part of the DCC family as she transitions to Michigan!
