DCC’s collaborates with the Royal Oak Children’s Choir and Singers of United Lands (S.O.U.L.)

On Saturday, January 21st, the combined choirs of the Detroit Children’s Choir joined the Royal Oak Children’s Choir for a special day-long multi-cultural workshop with the Singers of United Lands (S.O.U.L.). Our young artists learned about the music and cultures of India, Bolivia, Namibia and Poland directly from Virgil, Paola, Engelhardt and Zuzanna, singers who came to the United States for six months to share authentic songs from their native countries with the goal of DEVELOPING INTERNATIONAL AND CULTURAL RELATIONSHIPS THROUGH VOCAL MUSIC FROM AROUND THE WORLD!

The Coleman A. Young Elementary Choir performs

your holiday favorites in the Fisher Building lobby from noon to 1 pm on Wednesday, December 14th.

DCC Launches its NEWEST Volunteer opportunity!!

Be a CHORAL MENTOR for one of our choirs!!

The choral mentor program will kick off in Fall, 2011 and we are excited to bring as many people and choirs together to make it come to life for our children. The intention of the program is to use experienced singers from the community to encourage and teach our younger choir students about the world of choral music and its possibilities!

The mentors would be asked to attend rehearsals and sit side-by-side with our students to encourage and guide the children of DCC as they enter the world of choral music. This is a very minimal yet rewarding commitment for the mentors and our hope is that their excitement will spread throughout the choral community!

Here is where we need YOU! If you think you or other members of your choir would be interested in serving as mentors for a DCC choir,  please help us spread the word and speak to your choir about this new outreach opportunity. We want to start the season with mentors in place so that our students can begin to learn from you, the caring choral community!

For more information about this opportunity, please contact Megan Wright at  megan_starr@hotmail.com or 248-767-2339.

DCC and the Detroit Firemen’s Honor Guard perform for The Firehouse Detroit Project

FILM SCREENING
7:00PM
The Detroit Film Theater
This event is free to the public.

The next installment of The Firehouse Detroit Project is a film presentation premiering at the historic Detroit Film Theater. The film captures the most recent Firehouse installation that temporarily transformed, the abandoned Engine #4 into an art piece and culminated in an unforgettable live performance.

The screening will unfold in three acts and features a live score, choreographed interludes and performances by the Detroit Children’s Choir and the Detroit Firemen’s Honor Guard. This one-time film screening pays tribute to the spirit of Detroit and all of the nation’s fire fighters on the tenth anniversary of September 11th.
