In collaboration with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra’s Wu Family Academy, The Wu Family Academy is proud to announce the development of a new youth chorus as one of its Civic Youth Ensembles beginning the 2017-2018 season!
The Detroit Symphony Youth Chorale (DSYC) will be open to high school chorus singers by audition only and will perform advanced literature with opportunities to learn from professional singers, participate in master classes, work with orchestras and other music ensembles, and perform on historic Orchestra Hall Stage! Sight-reading skills and a healthy vocal technique are required for participation in this ensemble.
DSYC is a new collaborative effort between the Detroit Children’s Choir (DCC) and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO). Eric Taylor, Artistic Manager of the DCC, has been appointed by the DSO to serve as Conductor of this ensemble.

Detroit Children's Choir (DCC) grew from one in-school choir to 13 ensembles. More than 3,000 students have been choir members and participants in DCC workshops over the decade. Children from more than 70 different zip codes have participated in DCC programs; songs in 30 foreign languages from 25 countries have been learned and performed.
Choir members learn music literacy sight-reading skills and vocal technique using a wide variety of music of American heritage and classic children's choral works. Auditions for our intermediate and advanced ensembles can be scheduled at detroitchildrenschoir.org.
DCC uses the power of choral music education as a cultural platform to unite and enrich the lives of metro Detroit children of diverse backgrounds while helping to shape confident, focused and expressive leaders. DCC is the most inclusive choral music education program in the state of Michigan, offering programs to children ranging from Grades 3 - 12.
